The $100,000 H-1B Barrier: What It Means for Your Career
Hi there,
As of yesterday, September 21, a new rule has gone into effect:
U.S. companies must now pay $100,000 a year to sponsor each H-1B employee : new hires and renewals.
This isn’t just policy. It’s a price tag that forces companies to ask: “Is this candidate worth $100K before payroll?” And for early-career professionals, that question stings the most.
Because now, it’s not only about skills. It’s about certainty, confidence, and immediate impact.
At The Super Coach, we know the value immigrants bring. Together, we’ve shipped products used by billions, filed patents that power modern computing, and led innovation at Google, Tesla, and SpaceX. We didn’t just fill jobs - we helped build the future.
But now, many of us are being priced out.
If you’re on H-1B right now, don’t panic. But don’t wait either. Here’s where we need to focus:
→ Get crystal clear on what makes us valuable
→ Take on senior-level responsibilities
→ Explore alternate visa paths and internal transfers
→ Build visibility inside and outside our companies
This rule may still face challenges. But the message is loud and clear: low-leverage roles will be the first to go.
So let’s not just work hard. Let’s work smart. Let’s make sure our stories say one thing loud: We’re not a risk. We’re a return.
If you’re on H-1B and want a clear strategy to stay competitive, reply to this email with “strategy” and we’ll share our step-by-step approach to help you build clarity, confidence, and options.
P.S. We share updates, real stories, and proven frameworks every week to help job seekers land their dream role in the U.S. - make sure you’re following along.
With you every step of the way,
Chintan & Shreya
