Why applications don’t get you offers (and what does)
Hi there,
Your biggest problem as a job seeker isn’t a poor resume, an unpolished cover letter, or even an unoptimized LinkedIn profile. Those matter, but they come later.
The real challenge is how you think about your job search, day in and day out. Most people are told to spend hours polishing resumes, rewriting cover letters, and scrolling job boards. But when we look closely, the ones actually getting offers are the ones who are visible, connected, and proactive in their approach.
Sending 15 applications a day doesn’t move the needle. Having 15 meaningful conversations a week does. Scrolling job boards for hours is exhausting. Reaching out to people in companies you’re interested in gets you noticed far faster. Waiting for callbacks will keep you stuck. But asking for referrals, feedback, and informational interviews keeps you moving forward.
So where do you start? Small. This week, aim for five conversations. Ask a friend to introduce you to someone in their network. Reach out to a mentor. Message a few professionals in roles you admire. These small steps in building connections often bring you closer to your target role than endless online applications ever will.
At The Super Coach, we’ve seen it time and time again: opportunities flow to those who make themselves visible and connected, not to those who hide behind applications.
