Amazon just laid off 30,000 employees.
Hi there,
Amazon managers received urgent training on Monday to handle a massive layoff impacting 30,000 employees. To put that in perspective, in September 19,300 people were affected, in October another 5,100, and now 30,000 from Amazon alone, nearly 10% of its corporate workforce. If we think this is just about Amazon, we’re mistaken. The ripple effect is already here: more resumes, more competition, and more uncertainty in the job market.
If we felt even slightly at risk or just wanted to stay prepared, here’s exactly what we’d do. First, we’d audit our resume and LinkedIn profile. Most candidates never even get seen, so we’d use tools like Jobscan or Teal to make sure our resume is ATS-ready and optimized for recruiter searches. Next, we’d check out layoff-focused job boards like Layoffs.fyi and Otta, which spotlight companies still hiring and often prioritize talent impacted by recent cuts.
Finally, we shouldn’t wait until we’re in an interview to practice. We can use Google’s Interview Warm-Up Tool to refresh our storytelling and prepare for roles in tech, product, UX, or data. And if we’re unsure about our next direction, it’s time to reconnect with what we’re good at, what we enjoy, and where the market needs us. Tools like the Ikigai template can help.
Layoffs can shake our confidence, but they don’t have to define our careers. Preparation, clarity, and confidence are the real job security in today’s market.
With you every step of the way,
Chintan & Shreya
