Is your resume showing your real impact
Hi Super Professional,
When most people start job searching, they’re told the same things: update your resume, apply to more jobs, and hope something works out.
I used to believe that too.
But after reviewing thousands of resumes and working as a recruiter with teams hiring for companies like Microsoft and Amazon, I realized something important.
Getting hired isn’t about applying to more jobs. It’s about positioning yourself better.
I’ve now spent over 10 years in the United States navigating the hiring landscape ,first seeing it from the recruiter side, and now as a career coach helping professionals approach their careers with more clarity and confidence.
And one pattern shows up again and again.
Most resumes focus on tasks.
But recruiters are looking for impact.
For example, I often see something like:
“Managed a marketing campaign.”
That tells me what someone was responsible for.
But if I read:
“Led a campaign that increased qualified leads by 38%.”
Now I understand the value they created.
That difference matters more than most people realize.
Tasks describe the work. Impact shows the value you bring.
Here’s a simple question to think about this week:
If I opened your resume today as a recruiter, would I clearly understand the value you bring in the first few seconds?
In my experience, careers rarely change because someone applied to more jobs. They change when someone learns how to communicate their value clearly.
