Q2 reset: 90 days to fix your job search strategy

Hi {{ first_name }},

It’s April. One full quarter of the year is already gone.

If your job search didn’t go as planned in Q1, let’s be honest, it’s not just “bad luck” or “the market.” Something in your approach didn’t work. Maybe you applied to too many roles without direction, your resume didn’t clearly show your impact, or you avoided networking and delayed interview prep.

Whatever it is, repeating the same approach in Q2 won’t change the outcome.

But here’s the good news: 90 days is enough to turn this around if you’re intentional.

Here’s how to approach Q2 differently:

Week 1–2: Fix your basics
Your resume and LinkedIn shouldn’t just list responsibilities, they should clearly show results, impact, and direction. If someone scans your profile for 10 seconds, they should immediately understand what you bring to the table.

Week 3–6: Apply smarter
More applications won’t fix a broken strategy. Focus on roles that genuinely match your experience and tailor your resume so it speaks their language. Quality > quantity, every time.

Week 4–8: Talk to people
If you’re only applying online, you’re playing the hardest version of the game. Start conversations and reach out to recruiters, hiring managers, and peers. Opportunities often come from visibility, not just applications.

Week 6–10: Start preparing early
Don’t wait for an interview call to get ready. Practice how you talk about your work, refine your stories, and build confidence before you need it.

Week 10–12: Improve based on results
Track what’s working and what’s not, if you’re not getting callbacks, fix your resume; if you’re not converting interviews, fix your storytelling. Effort doesn’t matter if it’s not effective.

You don’t need another 6 months of trying harder. You need 90 days of doing the right things differently.

Q1 is done. Q2 is where you decide if things actually change.

If you want to shift how you think about your work and the value you bring, read So Good They Can’t Ignore You, it will push you to focus on building real, valuable skills, not just chasing roles.

With you every step of the way,

This “Feedback” is a huge red flag

Not because they lacked skills or weren’t a fit, but because they asked about salary, responsibilities, and work culture. Yes, really. This is what the company told them: “For future reference, asking quest...
This is where you should be applying
Hi {{ first_name }}, Most people looking for remote jobs only check LinkedIn and Indeed and then wonder why they’re competing with 500 other applicants for every role. The truth is, the best opportunities aren’t always on the biggest platforms. There are job boards specifically built for remote work, places where companies that are genuinely committed to remote hiring post their roles. N...
If your resume doesn’t show this, you’re losing opportunities
Hi {{ first_name }}, I came across a resume recently that helped this candidate land a $300,000 role at Google. And before you think it was just because of big names like Microsoft or Amazon on it, yes, that helped. But that’s not the full story. Because I’ve seen plenty of candidates from top companies still get rejected. What made this resume stand out was simple: it communicated impact, c...
