Your first 4 weeks after a layoff can define the next 8 months.
Hi there,
Over the past three months, we’ve spoken with more than 80 professionals who were laid off. And we noticed something powerful: the people who landed interviews quickly didn’t get lucky, they nailed their first four weeks.
In the first week, they allowed themselves to rest. They didn’t panic-apply to hundreds of jobs in one sitting. Instead, they paused, processed what happened, and built a clear story: “Here’s what happened. Here’s what I bring. Here’s what I want next.”
By the second week, they had positioned themselves clearly. Not “open to opportunities,” not juggling multiple job titles, but focused on one target role where their strengths stood out.
In the third week, they worked on visibility. They showed up on LinkedIn, reconnected with peers, and reached out to old managers, making sure the market remembered them.
And only in the fourth week did they begin applying. But even then, they weren’t scattering resumes everywhere. They focused on 20–30 high-quality opportunities where there was strong alignment.
The results spoke for themselves. Those who rushed and scattered often spent 6–8 months searching. Those who reset, positioned, and showed up landed interviews in 4–6 weeks. The truth is, our comeback after a layoff doesn’t depend on luck, it depends on how we spend those first few weeks.
